Why Cast Iron is the
Sensible Choice
- Cast iron retains heat better than steel and other materials.
- Cast iron can be moulded into more pleasing shapes and attractive
details.
- Cast iron does not warp, as can happen with metals that are stressed by a
welding process during manufacture.
- Cast iron stoves are of simple plate construction, which allows for
expansion and contraction without deformation. Unlike some other cast iron
stoves, Morsø choose to use rope seals in place of fire cement; this means
that the joints cannot crack and are always tight. This plate - and - rope
combination also happens to be the best for easy maintenance.
- Cast iron is the best material for hot components. Even steel stoves have
cast iron fire parts. Morsø's flame - path components (grates, baffles and the
like) are of chrome iron which gives the best performance in the hottest
areas.
- Cast iron stoves hold their value as the years roll on. Even stoves
approaching 20 years old are now fetching more than was paid for them.
- Cast iron lasts and lasts….and lasts!
- No other material does the job better than cast iron. It is not unusual to
come across stoves and firebacks made in the Victorian era that are still in
good condition. And they are made of cast iron.
